Alassio – Everything is ready for the eleventh edition of the Granfondo Internazionale Alassio – organized by Gs Alpi together with the Alassio City Council’s Sports Department with the collaboration of the investee company Gesco – scheduled for Sunday in the city of the Muretto, which will close the 2024 edition of the Gran Trofeo Gs Alpi and Specialized Granfondo Series circuit.
A total of 1,200 cyclists have registered for the event, which will start at 9:30 a.m. from Corso Dante Alighieri and end after 97.5 kilometers of the race near the Sanctuary of Madonna della Guardia.
“We are really pleased,” says Alassio City Council President and councilor in charge of Sports, Roberta Zucchinetti, ”to welcome to Alassio the many cyclists and enthusiasts who will animate the city during the coming weekend for the 2024 edition of the Granfondo road race. The event, originally scheduled for March 10 and postponed to September due to bad weather, is a wonderful event that manages to capture the enthusiasm of many every year. This success is the result of a perfect synergy between the organizers, our city administration and all those who work to ensure that the event grows and becomes increasingly relevant to our city.”
Single route of 97.5 kilometers that will touch the provinces of Savona and Imperia with arrival at the Sanctuary Madonna della Guardia. The route modified in early August to achieve a higher degree of safety is confirmed. Participants, will no longer face Colle San Bartolomeo and the following descent to Pieve di Teco that required the closure of an important artery such as the one leading from Imperia to Piedmont. “Since in September it is impractical,” Mevio says, ”to close that stretch of road for an hour, we decided to vary the route. The cyclists after facing Testico and Passo del Ginestro will no longer descend on San Bartolomeo, but at Cesio they will descend toward Vessalico facing a descent of about 7.5 kilometers passing through the hamlets of Cartari and Siglioli. Only the three-kilometer downhill section connecting these two hamlets, presenting a road surface not in good condition, will be neutralized to protect the participants.”
Registration. Online registration for the event closes this evening at 20:00, those who wish to register can do so at the event secretariat on Saturday, September 28 from 14.30 to 19.30 and Sunday morning from 07.00 to 09.00 in Partigiani Square.
The safety of the cyclists in the race has always been one of the priorities of the organizational work of patron Vittorio Mevio, in fact on Sunday morning in addition to 15 technical escorts, numerous Asa and volunteers deployed along the route the race will be escorted by the Traffic Police, which has been allowing participants in cycling events to ride safely for as many as twenty-seven years.
